Begin small, you could start out simple with a potted garden
Choose a small viewable site
Consider maintenance - water, gardening access to feeders
Know the existing conditions of the area - shade/sun, wet/dry,wind patterns, drainage, existing plants and critters, who do you want to discourage/encourage, people needs/uses
Find the right plant for the right place
Prepare the site - soil, drainage, paths
